Even though it's been a wet labor day my weekend has been fun, and it's been wonderful having off. I saw some friends from high school on Friday..one was in town from Boston so it was fun to catch up. I got to see some family yesterday and made my 2 year old cousin Dora cookies. I originally was going to do cupcakes, but due to time constraints I went with decorating sugar cookies. She has chocolate chips as eyes, and fruit by the foot as a mouth...what's for a 2 year old not to like? My Dora's turned out having sort of mullets (and probably could have been mistaken as Diegos), but Lily didn't seem to mind. Unfortunately this iphone picture was the only one I got.
We're having some family friends over for dinner with an atypical but healthy Labor Day menu. Salmon with a lemon-honey glaze, wild rice, an avocado salad, and perhaps my favorite part - bruschetta for an appetizer. My mom also is obsessed with trying this new drink for her friends..some sort of root beer cocktail. I'm not a big fan of rootbeer floats, but this could still be interesting (it's made with root beer vodka, vanilla simple syrup, real root beer, and a splash of cream). I will let you know the outcome on this culinary adventure :)

I did not realize how crazy the weather had been. I got back from my cruise and had 4 voice mails from family making sure I was okay. lol I love the cookies!!! I want to decorate some! I'm not a root beer fan either, but I feel maybe alcohol will make it better?
